Son: Mom, everyone in my school as a boyfriend or a girlfriend.
Me: Oh?
“Yeah, everyone’s mom and dad have a boyfriend or girlfriend”
“Do I have a boyfriend?”
“Not anymore. You did but he doesn’t like you anymore.”
“And who was my boyfriend?”
“Dad.”
Pause. Silence.
Continuing..
I ask, “Do you have a girlfriend?”
Giggles, “No.”
“But if you did, you would tell me right?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because it’s embarrassing.”
So he goes on about how his classmate likes this girl.
“Why do you think he likes her?”
“I have no idea.”
“So I guess boys like girls and then they become their girlfriend.”
“No, no mommy. Boys first have a crush on a girl and then the girl falls in love.”
